If you are not familiar with the concept of recreational vehicles, or the RVs, you must be a dinosaur. The vehicles are usually used by couples or a small group of friends who would either drive away or sail on the water. While both at the same time were not possible until now, here is a cool vehicle called the Harmony, which has been designed by Weili Feng from China.

The Harmony is like a yacht on wheels. It is an amphibian vehicle that can be used on the road and also as a yacht on the water. It is environmentally friendly and comes with space for 4 people to live. It has leisure areas, toilet, kitchen, and entertainment facilities and makes living a “living joy”.

I would so love to get this for myself as it not only looks good and is environmentally friendly but also is a great source of joy. It comes with a hydrogen battery and solar paddles which make sure that the product is not extremely taxing on the environment. You might have to wait for a while to get this product for yourself as such cool products take time to reach the market. Sometimes, they just don’t get manufactured either!

The military heartland of the United Stated of America, the Pentagon has announced that, the U.S troops stationed in Afghanistan will now be more secure, thanks to the all new lighter and more armored all terrain vehicles, known as M-ATV, that have already arrived in Afghanistan. The all new ATVs have been dubbed as “life savers”. The predecessors to the new life savers were mine resistant and heavily armored, yet they proved to be too cumbersome and hence, these new vehicles have designed, keeping in mind the rugged terrain of Afghanistan.

According to Ashton Carter (Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics),

“The terrain in Afghanistan is different from Iraq. It’s more uneven, the roads are difficult to traverse. That’s why we’ve had to create an all-terrain version.”

The new ATV program saw rapid progress as compared to other defense programs and have been airlifted to Afghanistan on an urgent basis, so as to provide adequate safe operational conditions for the U.S troops and reduce casualties caused by the roadside IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices). So far, 41 of these all new combat vehicles have already arrived in Afghanistan and have been deployed with 5000 additional units slated to be delivered by March 2010.

The M-ATV is considerably lighter than the ones it is replacing with total weight amounting to 25,000 pounds as against the standard armored M-RAP that stood at 40,000 pounds. Along with weight reduction, the ATVs are also composed of independent suspension, giving the vehicle more agility. The M-ATV has a seating capacity of five, including the gunner.

Toyota’s FT-EV II is a concept vehicle that completely takes you by surprise. It relies on the core technology of the Toyota Hybrid System and looks really great. The car does not come with a steering wheel and the world may just not be ready for such a futuristic concept!

It runs on a lithium ion battery and it provides fuel for up to ninety kilometres. The car also reaches a maximum speed of 100kmh. It is really weird as I still can’t gather how you could drive a car without foot pedals and steering wheels. It turns out, that is how this car functions and it would be amazingly cool if that happened so.

However, your traffic license might also change for this particular car. Are we going to see a new trend of cars without steering wheels? It would be amazing as we can talk on the cellphone without the hands free devices. There is no information about the price or availability as it is still in the conceptual stage.

The AC Shelby Cobra was born when Carol Shelby fitted a Brit AC Roadster with an American V8. Known mostly as Cobra since then, this 1965 classic sports car became a legend that even made its way into some movies. Barrett-Jackson will be auctioning a rare 1965 Shelby Cobra at the Las Vegas event on 10th of October this year.

The fully restored 289 Shelby Cobra (CSX2568) is one of nearly 700 Cobras that were built in the early 1960s. The car packs a 271hp engine which has been upgraded to 306hp by the California dealer that would be making the sale at the 2nd annual Las Vegas event. The Princess Blue car is upholstered with red leather and includes the original chrome Borranis wire wheels with Dunlop racing tyres.

The AC 1965 Shelby Cobra will be part of ‘The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions’ at the event and will be sold by the Barrett-Jackson Auction Company held at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. Being a collector’s item, the car would come with the original license plate and registration tags which expired back in 1972!

Peugeot Globule is a concept car designed by Ahmad Moslemi Far. The design of the car is pretty neat besides being unique and novel. The car has four separate parts, each with the capacity of one passenger and powered by a passenger motor. All these parts are then connected to a centralized battery system. The most beautiful part of the car is its flexible polymer cover that holds the parts and the connections of the car.

Almost similar to a living creature, the car can change into various shapes. For instance, it can arrange its parts on top each other. In addition to this, if you are passing through a narrow road, the car can arrange its parts in such a way that it literally becomes narrower.

You can also easily park the car in just 130 cm x 130 cm. As every part has an electric motor attached to it, there will be no problem with regard to power. You can also increase the capacity of the car by adding more spherical parts. It’s sad that the car is still in the form of a concept. It will be very nice if it ever becomes real as a vehicle.

This concept bike was never meant to be a real motorcycle- it was just an outlet for Ankit’s design exercise where he let his imagination go wild. For one, the bike is fuelled by atomic energy and also has an afterburner. And two, only a superhero will be able to take it off the stand!

“I set out to shape a motorcycle between two wheels and there it is. Although these wheels were first bike and see how they have done to live up to the design”, says Ankit. Ankit says that the Cloud Bike is not a realistic design but a motorcycle comic. He is happy to transfer the rights incase someone wants to do a comic with it. His dream, however, remains to design a bike for an Indian firm like Bajaj or Hero Honda.
Ankit was also noticed a couple of years ago with his Ram 1000 in a contest sponsored by Aprilia. Ankit is a programming expert and is pursuing studying art in New Delhi.

Dominic Hargreaves has designed a bike which can be folded so well that it would fit into its wheel’s 26 inch circumference. The bike, called the Contortionist has been shortlisted for James Dyson Awards. If Dominic wins the prize, he may take home £10,000. The guy is from Battersea in London and is all of 24 years.

He was reported as saying he was tired of other foldable bikes which neither look good nor perform properly. This bike here, called The Contortionist will definitely change the way people will ride bicycles and it is expected to be manufactured even, if it gains a prize. Dominic has already contacted many manufacturers and the design has been quite popular among many manufacturers.

This may help the bike in being manufactured. It would be extremely great to have this as people would stop using polluting vehicles if they have something easy and portable to carry around, which would also allow them to travel within the city. The bike certainly can fold into weird positions, and is thus The Contortionist.

As the world population increases perpetually, there is lesser space to accommodate the world’s vehicles. To overcome this problem, it’s best to go for lighter and smaller vehicles, which are as effective as the bigger vehicles. ‘Cherry’, which is neither a bike nor a bicycle, is a concept design of transportation that can offer similar functionality but with better facilities.

The name is inspired by the natural shape of Cherry. The vehicle has a variety of innovative features. It is a three wheeled vehicle with less energy requirement and strong performance. It comes with few and simple parts and zero emission. It has plug-in batteries and electric motor that reduce pollution to zilch. By virtue of being small in size, Cherry requires a small parking space.

Since the vehicle uses lightweight elements such as small battery and carbon-fiber plastic body, it weighs approximately 40kg or less. Although small in size, Cherry is a high performance vehicle with the high torque of the electric motor, lightweight design, strong wheel drive, etc. The idea sounds interesting and perhaps we must welcome such an innovative idea as this.
