Traffic signal for color blind people

Concerned citizens colorblind, the South Korean Ji-youn Kim, Soon-young Yang & Hwan-ju Jeon designed a traffic signal capable of informing the stage lights with lights and with both forms.

Color blindness is more common in men than in women, takes different forms and is present in about 15% of world population, according to the site Medicine.Net.

It is an eye problem or neurological origin, which prevents the differentiation of some or all colors, often manifesting itself by the difficulty in distinguishing red from green, two of the three colors used in traffic lights around the world.

According to the site DVICE, designers, concerned about it, created a device capable of informing the member of STOP, WARNING or FOLLOW – red, yellow and green, respectively – not only with color.

The idea is simple but genius: the red light appears under the formula of a triangle, continues round the yellow and green is now shown in a square format.

Regardless of the order in which the signs are shown, indicates the new format, no doubt, what action is allowed the driver.

The official website of the universal semaphore makes mention of the term “relearn to see the signals passer”, but makes clear that this is only a prototype.

However, the artists’ intention is to place the product on the streets as quickly as possible.
