Parwin Musthal is a known face on Afghan television. She works in serials and is also seen in numerous advertisements. She has also acted in nearly 20 theatre productions and quite a few movies. But her real life itself turned dramatic and tragic in December. She has had to pay a huge price for her choice of career in entertainment industry in a country which is under Taleban regime.

As Parwin’s fame grew it became a curse. She started receiving threats from the Taleban and their supporters. She was waylaid, attacked and abused. Yet she persisted. But one night in December her husband was brutally murdered outside her home. He was asked to step out by a man late in the night and was shot several times. She heard the gun shots but had to stay indoors huddling her children in fear. Next day she was informed about his brutal killing. She and her children are still traumatized and are in hiding.

Almost all working women in Kabul and Afghan cities have to live in constant fear due to growing presence of Taleban. Some have to pay a huge price for asserting their freedom and independence.
