Caroline Journaux and Adrien Guérin have unveiled a weird and fruity looking helmet called TopUp Head Protection. The headgear aims to protect your head and also be flexible and highly portable. It is made of a compactable honeycomb structure and is being developed by DoYouVelo?.

The product has been inspired by Paris’ Velib Public Bike Rental System and it can be folded flat to a fraction of normal helmets. What intrigues me is the helmets purpose being served in reality. Can these helmets really protect the head and i9f so, to what extent? They certainly do not look safe to me and the design seems to be only for women and that too, would look quite silly on anyone.

If it is really some wonder cloth material that would protect your head against all odds, and can be folded the way they claim I am sure it is a great idea. Otherwise it is no better than a silly tutti fruity hat which Carmen Miranda used to wear many decades ago. But of course, she was damn cool unlike you.
