After the near-revolution situation in Iran, Twitter has received unprecedented amount of media coverage and billions of web impressions, leading to remarkable popularity of the already popular social networking site. In fact all this media coverage and chatter has led its importance be worth about $48 million, which is nearly 100 times more than what Bing, Microsoft’s value currently is.
With about 3 billion impressions, Twitter has become remarkably successful and though most expect a “levelling off” it needn’t necessarily be so. Facebook and LinkedIn were totally in some time ago and do not generate the kind of publicity they did earlier. However, they are well established now and they continue to do well. The shocking part however is that it gained more number of visitors than Google did!
Likewise, Twitter’s originality and convenient way of staying in touch with friends and extended contacts makes it an almost indispensable part of modern life. Twitter may become as popular as mainstream media in just a couple of months, if we look at its popularity. It would be interesting to see how the guys at Twitter would monetize this kind of traffic and it would further be developed.
