
One of the biggest and foremost names in social networking and micro blogging, Twitter has now announced that, it is planning to create an all new official application for the Google Android mobile operating system. This revelation came at the Twitter Chirp conference, where the co-founder of the company, Evan Williams stated the company’s intention of tapping the Android platform with its very on app.
With this big announcement, there are speculations circulating that, Twitter might acquire an already running application and introduce it under its own banner or that, Twitter could also enter into a partnership with a developer or a mobile manufacturer, as highlighted in the case of Research in Motion, where Twitter launched an official application for the Blackberry devices. However, there bits and pieces of information that suggest, Twitter’s intentions of creating an application all by itself. As per reports, Twitter has been testing a self developed application an original client for several months now.
According to Evan Williams,
“We found we were under-serving users. We realized we had to have a core experience on these major platforms just like we do on the Web, otherwise we are failing users. It’s (Android client) going to be awesome.”
The micro blogging giant had recently acquired the popular Twitter application for the iPhone called, Tweetie and as per the company, this application will now be available to all iPhone users absolutely free of cost and with a new name of ‘Twitter for iPhone’.
