Being one of the biggest and the most widely used micro blogging websites in the world, Twitter has been in the cross hairs of some critics who have been continuously questioning Twitter’s methods of providing authentic accounts to celebrities, companies etc. for entertainment and business purposes. The main concern being that, users who choose to follow these accounts, should be aware, whether some of the accounts are really, what they claim them to be.

In an effort to extinguish such grave concerns, Twitter has now established an authentication system, through which users will now be able to distinguish between genuine celebrity accounts and the fake ones. This service will also prevent identity confusion and will ensure that only authenticated Twitter accounts are accessible to users.

When a user visits the Twitter page of a brand or a celebrity, that page would be embedded with a ‘Verified Account’ badge, that would e visible at the top right side corner of the profile page. However, if this particular badge is located on any other part of the profile page, then users are advised to consider that profile as a fake.
