In a recent development in Pakistan’s ravaged and terror infested Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), a suspected U.S missile attack killed two militants. The attack came at the time of fierce fighting between the Pakistani security forces and the Taliban in the Northwest Pakistan.
The missile is believed to have been fired from a U.S unmanned drone and the target was a house in Naurak village in the North Waziristan. The covert air strike killed two militants. United States has been regularly carrying out missile strikes against key Taliban command and control infrastructure for a long time now and it seems that these covert attacks will not be halted, despite Pakistan’s concerns and official complaints. Pakistani authorities believe that, such strikes are only further infuriating the militants and the country is paying a huge price in casualties by the reciprocating strikes carried out by the militants.
The target was believed to be the residence of a local warlord commander, Hafiz Gul Bahadur, who is a known affiliate of the Taliban has committed his militia to insurgency in Afghanistan, fighting against the U.S and NATO troops. However, today’s missile strike could have dire consequences for Pakistan as the authorities had reportedly struck a deal with the warlord, under which the areas under his control will off limit to the current ongoing Pakistani military offensive in South Waziristan. Pakistani authorities believe that, Hafiz Gul Bahadur is the point man for the suicide bomber squads that have carried out a relentless string of bombings throughout Pakistan since October this year.
