The United Nations staff and officials are in the process of being relocated as part of a security effort after the devastating Taliban attack on the UN officials, that left 5 people dead. The majority of United Nations workers in the region are either security experts or humanitarian aid workers.
Even with the ongoing relocation of more than 600 United Nations staffers, the organization is still committed to carry out its responsibilities in Afghanistan. However, the recent attack on the United Nations officials have greatly created a paranoia among the UN staff.

The more than 600 United Nations staff currently stationed in the Northwest region of Afghanistan, that borders with Pakistan, that is site of heightened terrorist activities will be relocated to other parts of the country that have been deemed secured. The relocation will take place for all non-essential staffers of the United Nations. As of now, the United Nations has a staff of 1,100 workers, all from different nationalities.

According to Aleem Siddique (Spokesman, UN),

“The plan is to consolidate those living arrangements so staff can be better protected. We’ve been here for over half a century and we’re not about to go any time soon.”

So far, the United Nations has provided its employees with an option of requesting leaves, thereby ensuring that the staffers are able to cope up psychologically with the current situation in Afghanistan. Furthermore, the United Nations officials are granting these leaves, thus acquiring time to formulate new strategies for strengthening the security of its staff.
