Just 24 hours after a Chinese air force commander announced the communist country’s aspirations to achieve space supremacy by creating offensive and defensive space based weapons, a Unites States general has stated that, it is high time or America to initiate more meaningful talks with China and try to understand, what China is looking forward to, especially considering its space program.
The head of the U.S Strategic Command that is bestowed with the responsibility of over watching U.S. military operations in space has stated that, the intelligence units dedicated to China have been astounded by the pace at which the country is developing its space program. China is known to have come a long way in the race to space, from the last ten years.
According to General Kevin Chilton (Pentagon Strategic Command),
“I think what we have all come to understand is that space is a competitive domain. We’re going to have to address these issues and these concepts and I think it’s better we do them through … a forum that provides an open dialogue between our nations than to do them without that dialogue.”
The recent comments put forth my the People’s Liberation Army Air Force Commander Xu Qiliang, who has stated in a news interview that, the air force of China will definitely develop and deploy offensive and defensive weapons in orbit, has put the United States into a fix, as a space weaponized China would become a far more formidable opponent than a nuclear equipped China. Xu Qiliang further emphasized his point by adding, “Only power could protect peace.”
China has already completed the first steps towards space acquisition by sending three astronauts into the orbit, where they completed a set of spacewalks and also by launching its very first lunar probe, that completed its moon testing in the month of October last year.
