The much anticipated and equally debated universal mobile charger, commonly known as, Universal Charging Solution (UCS) has finally been given the stamp of approval by the International Telecommunication Union. The ITU is a United Nations body that governs the global telecommunication standards and protocols.
This unique all-in-one mobile charger has been designed and developed to be compatible with mobile phones of all make and models and is expected to help eradicate the excess waste created with different mobile chargers, that are dedicated to their own models and manufacturers.
According to ITU officials,
“Every mobile phone user will benefit from the new Universal Charging Solution (UCS), which enables the same charger to be used for all future handsets, regardless of make and model. In addition to dramatically cutting the number of chargers produced, shipped and subsequently discarded as new models become available, the new standard will mean users worldwide will be able to charge their mobiles anywhere from any available charger, while also reducing the energy consumed while charging.”
The Universal Charging Solution is a joint project between several companies, but Nokia and Sony Ericsson are known to be two prominent members of the program and the universal mobile charger is expected to hit the markets by the year 2010. Some other big names, that are known to be actively involved in the project are, LG, Motorola, Samsung, T&T, KTF, Telefonica, T-Mobile and Vodafone. The Universal Charging Solution is based on the micro USB platform, that will be compatible with all mobile phones and is expected to hit the markets by the year 2012.
