UPS, the world’s largest package delivery company has publicized its foremost purchase of the latest hydraulic hybrid vehicles (HHV) on the 27th of this month at Atlanta’s Centennial Park. David Abney, chief operating officer, UPS was joined by representatives of the EPA, the Eaton Corporation (NYSE:ETN) and Navistar (NYSE:NAV) at the news conference.
The HHVs were initially developed by the federal laboratory of the Environmental Protection Agency, USA. These vehicles are fitted with high-efficiency diesel engines in combination with an inimitable hydraulic propulsion system, which generates energy by compressing hydraulic fluids under pressure in huge tanks. These HHVs save on the fuel economy by 45-50% and also cut down the CO2 emissions by 30%. UPS was also the first to road-test those 2 years ago. The diesel engine in these vehicles will only be used occasionally to recharge the hydraulic pressure.

The UPS’s green trucks will be seen on the roads by early 2009. They will now deliver environmental benefits along with the packages to the Americans. The HHVs will add to the existing green vehicles being used by the UPS. This shows how UPS has been protecting environment, economy and energy resources.
