According to folklores blood sucking vampires rule the night world seeking vengeance. The myth and mystique of vampires have inspired many novels, poetry, more recently movies and even a HBO serial. Vampires have been box-office hits too. So no wonder vampires have now started haunting the virtual world too!
Vampire related websites have gained popularity and vampires related pages have dedicated followers on Facebook and Myspace too. People are getting hooked to online vampire wars. The official Twilight movie site had 553,000 visitors in June 2009 alone. HBO’s second season campaigning of True Blood series focused more on online advertising too. It hired Digital Kitchen to design the campaign. The campaign was a great success.
Is all the advertising and buzz making vampires popular? Or are the film makers and storytellers, new media and the marketing world cashing in on the myth and popularity of blood sucking mysterious vampires? For the advertising world vampires must be inspirational for their creative teams too.
Whatever it is vampires have found new hunting grounds in the online world and are lurking people away into imaginative dark world. This new trend is good news too – we all need a break from boring real world!
