111 Vint Cerf Interplanetary Internet Being Developed

Internet has created a brave new world where the world is connected and it is not even a wonder anymore. However, this wiring has been possible only on the Earth and astronauts aboard spacecrafts and other planets may not be able to contact each other or communicate with those on Earth. Now that many space missions are being undertaken, communication between astronauts, robots in space and those on the earth becomes very important.

Google’s Vint Cerf is developing an Interplanetary Internet that aims to connect not just the world but also the entire solar system. Even when message travels at the speed of light, it takes about 7 minutes to reach mars when it’s closest to earth. The fact that planets, satellites and spacecrafts that are in orbit revolve around an axis and that makes it difficult for communication to happen.

He plans to put up DTN/bundle-protocol applications to put up in the space in order to make this sort of inter planetary internet communication to happen. Though it all looks very exciting, it might take time for the technology to really come into being. Vint Cerf has yet again proven that he is one of the coolest guys that make Google and Internet run.
