Goods transport has been increasing at an alarming rate lately and that has contributed a lot to the environmental pollution that the world has begun to see. Volvo has initiated a co-operation with the Swedish government in order to channelize the movement of goods in ‘green corridors’. The idea is to reduce traffic congestion, improve speed and ultimately reduce environmental pollution.
The project aims to develop new technologies and approaches, which complement the existing technology. The idea is to use a ‘Duo-Trailer’ that is apparently an extension of a complete rig including the trailer. This is actually a European model, which states that longer and heavier trucks with huge capacities result in the number of trucks and thus pollution too.
They are also in the process of developing and testing IT and software which allows the drive to drive the vehicle in such a way that fuel efficiency and communication between vehicles are enhanced and thus air and noise pollution could be reduced. These and many other plans may in the long run change the way goods are being transported in Europe right now. Such steps may help in reducing environmental damage that has already begun.

They already have these. They’re called “trains.”
