There are only two drugs approved to treat the Influenza A (H1N1) virus, formerly called swine flu. Only Relenza and Tamiflu are approved to cure the viral infection. Other medicines that are advertised as approved over Internet sites that sell online medications may either be counterfeit or a health risk. “Protect yourselves and your computer from the human swine that prey on our desire for information to keep us healthy,” says Kevin Haley of Symantec.

A health panic can be a lucrative racket to enterprising fraudsters who are exploiting people’s fears. One such case is the current effort of some cybercriminals who are taking advantage of the unsuspecting public through a real PDF entitled ‘Swine influenza frequently asked questions’ that does contain a list of ‘frequently asked questions’ and answers. This file is actually a malicious software called InfoStealer, a program that steals passwords. Fact is, according to the Interpol, “Around three to four percent of spam mails currently being circulated are related to the swine flu, with this number expected to increase.”

‘Online pharmacies and remedy peddlers’ are having their heyday at this time of global health crisis hysteria that is triggered and made even more sensational by shrewd healthcure promoters. There is even an Internet site that offers a certain herbal tea that can cure and prevent swine flu.
