Finally, there seems to be a better solution to combat malaria, the deadly disease, which kills approximately 1 million people in a year. Apparently, the astrophysicists in Seattle, Washington are making a laser gun that will literally kill mosquitoes.
Interestingly, the same technology was developed under the Star Wars anti-missile programme. Professor Lowell Wood, an astrophysicist, who helped work on the U.S anti-missile defense system is one of the designers for this laser, which has been dubbed as Weapon of Mosquito Destruction (WMD).The WMD laser is highly scientific and functions by detecting the audio frequency created by the beating of mosquito wings. A computer triggers the laser beam that in turn burns the mosquito’s wings and kills the insect instantly. This sounds very easy and cool to me.
The research is still on and it is funded by Microsoft billionaire Bill Gates. If WMD laser becomes successful, then it will indeed be a very useful weapon to eradicate the notorious disease that has killed millions of people around the world. I wish this was invented at least a century ago so that we could have saved those million lives killed by malaria.
