There is a crisis. For mere mortals, they simply throw their hands to heaven and cry over breaking their backs to make ends meet. Not for gods and demi-gods, though. They take a different tack. They simply sell their luxuries – and a make a killing in profit.
Playboy king Hugh Hefner sells his mega-villa for $28 million dollars. The luxury guest house near the Country Club was purchased at a paltry $6.7 million dollars in 1998. The luxury villa in the A-list suburb of Holmby Hills sits on seven hundred square meters. It has a great freebie, too – breathtaking views.
In 1998, Hefner bought the villa for his then wife, playmate Kimberly playmate. The couple divorced the following year and Kimberly stayed in the villa. I wonder where Kimberly will be staying after the house is sold.
On March 18, the furnishings of a villa owned by designer Gianni Versace located by the Lake Como will be auctioned by Sotheby’s in London. 550 paintings and furniture of the residence are among the lot on the block.
Chairs, beds, sitting room pieces of the 17th and 19th centuries vintage, miniature art pieces, mosaics, sculptures, and bronze figures are some of the auction items. Among the lots for sale are 19 beds, 18 libraries, 17 chandeliers, 36 tables, and numerous portraits of Roman emperors that decorate the villa of the fashion designer who was murdered in Miami in 1997.
After his death, Versace’s sister Donatella and brother Santo sold his property in the US but kept the house in Lake Como. Last year, however, the villa was bought for $35 million by Russian tycoon Arkady Novikov who decided to take some of the furniture. Now, the rest of the furnishings will be put on bid. The sale of these pieces from Villa Fontanelle, known as the Versace collection, is expected to fetch at least $2.75 million.
