Where Is Darjeeling Headed To?

9 Where Is Darjeeling Headed To?

The recent protests ended up in the death of many innocent Darjeeling citizens and the Central government of India has not done much either to stop the CPM and other party workers from crushing the protests. The condition in Darjeeling is pathetic, to say the least. The West Bengal government uses all the revenue but there are no roads, water supply, nor is there a proper electric supply.

The wages for tea plantation workers too low and the conditions for the average Darjeeling citizen are pitiable. West Bengal Municipal Affairs Minister Ashok Bhattacharya, Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), said that “The show of support from the non-Gorkhas was only a survival strategy for minority communities in the hills.” This kind of attitude has led the Nepali speaking locals to feel alienated and desire for a better life, sans corruption, intimidation and propaganda.

While the Nepalese and other inhabitants of Darjeeling continue to exist a life of misery and torture, The West Bengal continues to enjoy the revenues and other benefits derived from this beautiful district, which badly needs a breather. The beautiful and rich district of Darjeeling continues to suffer in the political and arm might of West Bengal.
