Where is my (Pay)pal when I need it?

The online service PayPal of electronic payments of the auctions site eBay, was offline for one hour Monday afternoon leaving millions of customers without could make online transactions. The damage may reach USD 7,2 million.

In an announcement on the newspaper The Wall Street Jornal, the spokesperson of PayPal, Anuj Nayar, affirms that the cause of the breakdown was an internal problem in a net equipment and that the company is studying forms of compensating the damaged customers.

Nayar didn’t know how to esteem the lost amount in negotiations during the period in that PayPal was inactive. According to the eBay, the service moves 2 thousand dollars in online payments by second, what is equal to 7,2 million dollars in one hour (just do the math).

Acquired for the eBay in 2002, PayPal is the largest platform of electronic payments in the world. Today, beside the service Bill Me Later, also belonging to the eBay, PayPal administered 16,7 billion dollars in payments through the web in the second quarter of the year.
