Russia isn’t exactly the place that would come to your mind when you think of Thanksgiving.

However, it might come to you as a surprise to learn that Russians celebrated Thanksgiving too, along with Americans in a parallel tradition. A Canadian Blogger has written more about that. Americans have long viewed Russia with suspicion and there are many reasons behind it. However, with Russia now being a capitalist society, it is becoming a much friendlier place. Americans and Canadians can expect a number of Thanksgiving parties across Russian cities and towns.

If you are an American living in Russia, it would be best to contact an American centre in your location and ask them for information about events, parties and get together to eat some good old turkey and some great wine. The Sheraton Palace Hotel in Moscow has many events lined up and you could certainly find restaurants and hotels in St. Petersburg as well.

While it might still be difficult for you to find a great Thanksgiving do, you can always invite your Russian friends home and cook them a great American meal! You would not have to worry much as Russians are usually polite and bring bottles of vodka when they visit hosts.
