Research company Nielsen Online has revealed that almost 60% of new visitors to Twitter fail to visit after a month. This suggests that Twitter is immensely popular but lacks the substance to create a loyal fan base or something that would keep the visitors attention for a span longer than just a month.
It might be shocking to many, especially to Twitter CEO Evan Williams who would be genuinely worried about the new finding. Last February, the number of visitors to Twitter was just under half a million. Now, the number of visitors has exponentially grown to more than 7 million. however, Twitter lacks the capability and charm to retain these millions of users who visit Twitter everyday.
The problem could many, including Twitter not allowing people in countries like Brazil, India and Australia to tweet through their cellphones. Twitter has one of their ‘numbers’ to which one can send an sms from India, and it should ideally tweet. Unfortunately, it doesn’t and the answer given is that the number is still in beta stages. If such technical glitches are solved, it would perhaps encourage to visit more often.
After having created an account on twitter (http://twitter.com/jaiyant) I rarely visited because it did not work the way it is supposed to. I cannot tweet through my cellphone from India. Perhaps, solving such problems will encourage these millions of customers to visit again, after visiting for the first time due to the hype.
