Will Obama regulate ad industry?

Obama’s election campaign will be remembered for many reasons. It was a most expensive and successful campaign. Democrats raised huge funds, designed excellent campaigns and counter campaigns. They used all openings in print, television and internet to reach to people with their manifesto and the message of change.

Obama has won and now is the time to speculate real changes that he might bring in. His campaign focus has been on health reforms and health industry. He is on people’s side and may not be on the side of profit driven marketing trends of present industry. So the big question is, will he regulate advertising industry?

Any regulation in any sector will not be good news for advertising industry. It is speculated that Obama might limit pharma industry’s direct-to-consumer reach. This may mean a cut in drug advertising and increase in ad taxes.

Advertising industry is already feeling the pinch of economic crisis. So industry anxiety is understandable. These are hard times but they’ll surely pass. Advertising is and will remain a back bone of marketing and media. Some doors may get shut but new doors will open.
