Vista was such a nightmare for some that Windows 7 is now thought of as a palliative measure for people to forget Vista. A desperate move to win back Microsoft believers is needed after the debacle of Vista. After all, ‘Windows powers about 90% of the world’s computers; by the company’s own reckoning more than one billion people use it.’
Microsoft officially launches Windows 7, its latest version of its operating system. The future of the world’s biggest software company is said to hang on the balance with the fate of Windows 7. The new and latest operating system offering is held with the highest expectation of possibly being ‘Microsoft’s one and maybe only chance to redeem itself.’
Vista was undeniably a blight to the company’s reputation. It is ‘a bloated, difficult to install operating system’ that ‘left many early users with suddenly unusable hardware and software. The disaster badly undermined Microsoft’s credibility with consumers and software developers.’
Unlike Vista that was two years overdue, Windows 7 rolls out on time. It has gotten good early users’ review as ‘fast, reliable, secure and easy to use on the move.’ Unlike Vista that ‘failed to prepare its partners for the new system,’ Windows 7 is proof that ‘the Windows ecosystem is the broadest in the world.’ For starters, it is compatible with applications that were built for operating systems as old as Windows 95. It also boasts of an initial menu of 8,500 certified apps.
