Windows 7 Touch Screen Feature Only For The Rich

One of the features of the all new Microsoft Windows 7 operating system that have been raved about, is the touch input support. This new features allows users to rotate, scroll and zoom with nothing but just their two fingers. This unique features makes Windows 7 stand out in front of the previous MS operating systems and make it a stark competitor to Mac, as Leopard and its advanced versions do not provide this feature.

However, many analysts believe that, even with such a great feature, most of the users will be deprived of taking a shot at it, as, the touch-input feature will require a monitor that would support touch screen features. But, such touch screen capable monitors add another $100 to the entire computer setup cost. Therefore, it is quite possible that only a fraction of users would be able to take advantage of this feature, especially those, who can afford such costly monitors.

According to Richard Shim (Analyst, IDC),

“We’re thinking like 5 percent to 10 percent of shipments for 2010. Unless circumstances change, the rate isn’t likely to climb significantly in the coming years.”

Touch screen phenomenon has been around for some time now and many believe that it’s here to stay. With Windows 7 hitting the retail shelves this year, an exponential growth in touch enable desktops and laptops is expected. Also, monitor manufacturers are also expected to introduce touch screen displays that would compatible with standard computer systems as well.
