Winnie Mandela is all set to contest polls as African National Congress (ANC) candidate for a seat in Parliament. She may get a seat and a cabinet berth too. So those critics who wrote her off are in for a huge surprise. Winnie Mandela will again step out from controversial shadows of the past.

Winnie Mandela was loved and adulated by her nation and the world during the anti-apartheid movement. She almost became a symbol of the historic struggle after her ex-husband Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years. She played a huge role in keeping the struggle alive in his absence. She too faced rigorous imprisonment for the cause.

It was indeed shocking that once Nelson Mandela returned and became President of the nation she hit a real rough patch. She was arrested and suspended for various crimes including murder, advocating killing to end apartheid and last one was for fraud and theft. She and Nelson Mandela got divorced. But looks like she has came away from it all and will soon begin new political innings. The elections are scheduled to be held on 22nd April.
