‘Worthless’ Currency Triggers the Zimbabwean Trillion Dollar ad Campaign

Protests can at times bring out the most unique and sometimes the most bizarre ways of projecting emotions among the masses. Recession and sky-rocketing inflation that have resulted in the Zimbabwe currency having absolutely no value, have triggered an uproar in the country.

An ad campaign by The Zimbabwean Newspaper has been propelled by anger and brainwaves in frustrated moments. Huge posters, wall murals, flyers and even billboards have been made not out of paper, but Zimbabwe’s own dollars. It is billed as Zimbabwe’s Trillion dollar campaign, also World’s first. As the wordings in the campaign go, it says that the Mugabe regime has destroyed Zimbabwe, that it has presided over brutal oppression of opposition, a cholera crises, massive food shortages and a total collapse of the economy. The newspaper also says that anyone brave enough to report this has been bullied, beaten and driven into exile.
Currency notes stuck in hundreds to form billboards and ad banners, with absolutely no value, have however shown signs of how the newspaper’s ad campaign can well turn the world’s attention toward the country.
The ad says those notes cannot buy anything, not bread, and certainly not advertising.
