Yahoo! Meme is a project totally developed in Brazil that allows the publication of texts, pictures and music in MP3 stored in the user’s hard disk and videos from YouTube.
The project was well succeed and, after several months testing Meme in Portuguese and Spanish, finally Yahoo! launches its microblog service in English, although it doesn’t has limits for characters and it is possible even post texts formatted by HTML codes, a great difference among Meme and Twitter.
Just like Tumblr, Meme allows profiles to be following, with their updatings being organized chronologically in the user’s initial page. Still quite basic, the preferences allow new followers to be communicated by e-mail.
The idea of Meme is that the users can share content in a fast and direct way, for who doesn’t have a blog or is too lazy to write a larger post in a blog service. Its differential is that the contents are clearly divided in: Text, Picture, Video and Music. The look of the site is very attractive, as every web 2.0 service should be.
Besides, Yahoo! Meme also presented the capacity to repost contents from others automatically, a very popular tool in Tumblr. The interface presents a section for you to follow random people, however, strangely it still doesn’t have a functionality to look for friends. Another characteristic of the interface is its good usability, what is another difference between it from Twitter.
On the other hand, Yahoo! asks for the cooperation and the users’ feedback to improve the service, demonstrating a compromising of the company with their customers.
A curiosity: the users of that service are also called “memes” by Yahoo! and not just the ideas, sounds, images and videos that are published.
