Yahoo! Inc. is right now in a position where every move it makes and and every deal it gets into is a fight for its survival. It has been a long time since Yahoo! began its survival training course, and with rapidly exhausting options, it seems that Yahoo! will take just about anything to ensure that, its user base remains intact. Continuing the saga, Yahoo! has now entered into a partnership with the biggest social network on the net, Facebook Inc. to give its users more reasons to use Yahoo!.
The new forged partnership will enable Yahoo! users who log into Facebook with their Yahoo! e-mail Ids to get the contents of both the websites at a single venue, instead of going through both websites again and again. When a user is logged on to his Yahoo! account, he will be able to view the status updates of his Facebook contacts and similarly, when the user is logged on to Facebook, the he’ll be able to view his Yahoo mails, photos etc in Facebook itself.
As of now, Yahoo’s home page is displaying an application related to Facebook, providing a peek of the Facebook updates. And this collaboration would mean that, in the next year, users will be able to use Facebook’s content on Yahoo!. The Yahoo! Facebook partnership is yet another effort on the part of Yahoo! to maintain its user base and this is not the first time that, Yahoo! has opened its door for third party applications.
Since last one year, Yahoo! has been forced to shed about 2,000 due to the continuous decline in the company’s revenue and profits, that was recorded at 12% till October 2009. On the other hand, Facebook has witnessed an exponential growth both in size and user base, with the current users base being 350 million and counting. Facebook’s current market value is about $10 billion.
