With Google, Microsoft and other search engines already providing real time search results on their respective websites, Yahoo! Inc. has also decided to jump in to the pool of real time search. According to sources inside and close to Yahoo!, the company is currently in the process of testing the feasibility of real time search in its search engine and is currently running extensive tests in collaboration with a host of partners that are already providing real time search results.

One of the primary names in the real time search business, OneRiot is one such company with which Yahoo! is currently partnered with. The real time search results in Yahoo’s search engine will be available to only 10% of its user base, as the real time results currently are in a trial basis.

With the emergence social networking behemoths like Facebook and micro blogging websites such as Twitter, the scope and necessity for real time search results has greatly increased. The advent of real time search has greatly cut back on the time required for a user to pinpoint specific information, as now, users can simply find what they are looking for via the news feeds and updates from Twitter, that being streamed in real time. In the month of September, Google and Microsoft both announced their deals with Twitter, that would enable the users to find real time results on Google and Microsoft Bing search engines.

According to Yahoo!,

“The shortcut will only appear on certain queries that will be determined by Yahoo. This is a test designed to discover if showing such content is useful to people.”
