Finally there is the prospect that the prison at Guantanamo should be closed, but it will not be an easy task.

The transition team of president-elect, Barack Obama, began to discuss what should be done, although he emphasized that no decision has been made.

But this problem is more complicated than it sounds. There are legal and practical difficulties.

The legal problems arerelated to the trial of terrorist suspects have not yet been resolved. Some say the prisoners should simply be judged by ordinary U.S. courts. It is believed that about 50 prisoners who could be tried among the approximately 250 who are in Guantanamo. However, the evidence against them may have been obtained by coercion or even torture, or with the help of foreign agencies who may have used such methods.

On the other hand, continues to air the question of what to do with prisoners whose release has been approved. And there is a group of inmates who are in “limbo”, since there is no evidence against them nor the confidence that they would not return to their (alleged) terrorist activities if released.

According to International Amnesty, about 50 of the detainees currently can not legally be sent to their countries of origin because it “would face a real risk of violations of their human rights such as torture and other ill-treatment.” Among these countries are China, Libya, Tunisia, Russia and Uzbekistan.

Anyway, this is one of the many decisions that Obama will have to take. But Obama will have the courage to close Guantanamo?
