Cold and flu are the most common illnesses we come across. Most of us suffer from them at least once in a year, saddest point being that there is no permanent solution for it. In this scenario, Arizona based Matrixx Initiatives Inc., which makes products under the Zicam brand has unveiled its new program, the “Cold & Flu Companion” for T-Mobile G1 which warns you about the flu sufferers around.

The Companion gives you a lot of information like the percentage of people suffering from cold or flu in the particular area, the severity of risk, and the symptoms you may come suffer from once you caught on of these. All you have to do is just type in the ZIP code of the place you want to go to or are already at to find out the disease levels and then you would get the information collected by the Surveillance Data Inc., which in turn collects it from polling health care providers and pharmacies.

The Companion is available for free download from the Android Marketplace for G1, and will soon be compatible with iPhone. The creator of G1’s operating system, Google Inc. has launched its own state-by-state Web-based flu tracker recently based on the number of people plugging flu-related searches into Google’s search engine. This program would definitely help travelers a lot.
