Zionism, Anyone?

hamas rally Zionism, Anyone?

The matter of Israel and Palestine is a complex one, so complex that the issue is still raging to this day. Of course, it is also currently fiery, brutal, and bloody. It has been touted as a religious issue. But then again, most have also called it an interminable political debacle. It is really nothing more than the perpetuation of egos so huge as to earn a world spectacle where innocent civilians perish in the firestorm.

Palestine is a very sensitive topic. It is also a hazy concept. In the first place, it does not exist as a formal geographical and governmental entity. What it has been, however, is an image of a place and a people that has been downtrodden for years, driven away from their ancestral homelands, and always under the perennial threat of genocide. This is Palestinian propaganda that has been perpetuated in the West. What is factual is that the Hamas is a cruel and brutal Islamist group that encourages such mind-boggling acts as suicide bombing. It claims its legitimacy for having been duly voted in the past, and is now the ruling political party.

Zahir Muhsein, PLO executive committee member, said in an interview with a Western newspaper
in 1977:

“The Palestinian people do not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct ‘Palestinian people’ to oppose Zionism.”

It is uncanny that hundreds, even thousands, of lives have been wasted in the name of a myth.

  1. Palestinian people, I regret, aren’t a myth. And Hamas is not Palestine.
